The CADC Head Start program was started in 1967 to give children from low-income families a head start before they enter elementary school. The main focus is to increase the school readiness of young children ages 3 and 4. The program also seeks to help parents and caregivers be empowered to self sufficiency. Children in the program have access to educational resources, health and dental services, nutritional services, and social services. A major function of the CADC Head Start program is family involvement.
Parents meet monthly to discuss topics ranging from nutrition, safety, and education of their children to social services and family development. Through the USDA Program, CADC provides nutrition and nutrition education as a major component of program activities. Children recieve well balanced meals at breakfast and lunch, as well as snacks during the day.
