President Obama has signed into law one of the most progressive pieces of legislation this nation has ever seen - The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). That law - stimulus funding - will create and save jobs throughout the state and nation. Stimulus funds will help public and private organizations invest in infrastructure, develop energy efficiency and new technology initiatives, provide assistance to the unemployed, train and educate the workforce and stimulate future economic growth.
At CADC, stimulus funds are being used to develop projects throughout the service area, from weatherizing homes to helping impoverished communities attain services. The projects will focus on building community partnerships that will increase employment opportunities. CADC is involved with hiring new employees or keeping on employees who might otherwise have been let go. The increased availability of services is expected to help CADC create approximately 60 temporary jobs before funding runs out September 2010.
* Community Development Specialists: Staff will conduct outreach in communities to identify and work with vulnerable low to moderate-income individuals/families without access to services. CADC plans to work with these customers to assist in obtaining services such as transportation, food, child care, housing, and energy assistance that is essential in their daily living. Communities will form their own community-based groups and projects, and identify ways to use new skills and capacities gained as a result of training and technical assistance provided by CADC staff.
and collaborate with agencies that offer nutrition services to seniors to identify vulnerable low to moderate-income seniors. In the section of the service area where CADC has center-based senior centers, vulnerable low to moderate-income customers will be identified from the homebound and congregate population assessment.
As of October 1, 2009, CADC has created 10 temporary jobs through Recovery Act legislation. These jobs have been funded through the Weatherization Assistance program.
